Get ready to jump, dance, and play in a colourful digital world at Brighton Museum!

Get ready to play, explore and bring your shadow to life! Opening on Saturday 24 October 2026, Magic Place is a new interactive experience at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, inviting families to step into a colourful digital world created by artists Genetic Moo.

Move your body, watch your shadow transform and discover what happens when you interact with the emojis and images dancing across the projections. Using multiple projectors and sensors, Magic Place responds to your movements, turning your shadow into a colourful on-screen silhouette that can interact with the digital world around it.

With more than 100 different scenes appearing in a random order, every interaction is different. Play, watch and listen as the artwork changes around you – you never quite know what will happen next!

Created by artists Nicola Schauerman and Tim Pickup, aka Genetic Moo, Magic Place takes inspiration from the bold colours and 8-bit graphics of 1980s and 1990s home computers. Grown-ups can revisit the digital worlds of their childhoods, while younger visitors discover the possibilities of interactive art.

Can you spot all 10 hidden objects? There’s a challenge to take on, too. Hidden within the artwork are 10 objects from the museum’s Passion, Power & Protest gallery. Follow the trail, keep your eyes peeled and see if you can find them all.

And why stop there? Make a day of it at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and don’t miss Making the Masked Singer, right next door. Discover the spectacular costumes, incredible designs, and secrets behind the hit TV show for an extra dose of family fun.

Both exhibitions are free with Brighton Museum admission, Members Free.
