Help shape the future of Brighton’s collections

Brighton & Hove Museums is a leading cultural charity responsible for caring for over one million objects and some of the city’s most iconic buildings, including the Royal Pavilion. Our collections tell stories of local, national and international significance and play a vital role in connecting people with heritage, creativity and culture.

We are looking for two part-time Curators to join our Collections team. The successful candidates will be a proactive and committed collections professionals with strong collections management expertise.

The role will champion and deliver projects to improve the care, management and development of our collections across multiple subjects and sites.

What you’ll be doing

• Developing projects to audit and inventory collections to professional museum standards
• Administering acquisitions, loans and disposals
• Undertaking restorage and movement projects
• Reviewing and rationalising collections to meet organisational objectives
• Supporting the implementation and delivery of a new CMS/DAMS system
• Enhancing access to collections through research and digitisation

What we’re looking for

• Experience of delivering collection projects, such as collections reviews, rationalisation, audits, inventories and documentation improvement programmes.
• A strong understanding of collections documentation standards and collections management systems.
• Confidence in preparing data driven reports and proposals, and presenting recommendations to colleagues, stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Enthusiasm for inclusive practice, for empowering communities, researchers, and visitors to engage with, contribute and shared collections knowledge.

Specialist Knowledge

We value the different perspectives and specialist knowledge people bring. To complement the existing team, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience of working with art, design, fashion, toys, furniture, historic house or world cultures collections. We are also open to receive applications from candidates with more general experience across a variety of collections material.
