Shape the future of Brighton’s heritage

At Brighton & Hove Museums, we care for over one million objects and some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the world-famous Royal Pavilion. As a vibrant and ambitious charity, we’re passionate about preserving Brighton & Hove’s rich heritage while ensuring our buildings continue to inspire, educate and welcome visitors for years to come.

We’re looking for an exceptional Buildings & Contracts Manager to lead the care, maintenance and development of our unique property portfolio. From major restoration projects and conservation works to fire safety improvements and infrastructure upgrades, this is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact on some of the country’s most significant heritage assets.

This is a strategic and hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in protecting and enhancing our historic estate.

You’ll lead the planning and delivery of maintenance programmes, manage capital projects, oversee specialist contractors and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities as you help ensure our buildings remain safe, sustainable and fit for the future.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and delivering planned, preventative and reactive maintenance programmes across our historic sites.
  • Developing and implementing a five-year maintenance strategy that balances conservation, sustainability and value for money.
  • Commissioning and managing condition surveys, using findings to inform long-term asset planning and investment.
  • Overseeing conservation, repair and improvement projects from concept through to completion, following the RIBA Plan of Work.

About You

You’ll be a knowledgeable and proactive property professional with a passion for heritage buildings and a track record of delivering successful maintenance and capital projects.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong expertise in building maintenance, conservation and repair.
  • Experience preparing specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation.
  • Sound knowledge of planning legislation, listed buildings and heritage regulations.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a buildings management role. It’s an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy.

When you join Brighton & Hove Museums Trust, you’ll:

  • Contribute directly to the preservation of Brighton & Hove’s cultural history.
  • Work on varied and high-profile projects that make a visible difference.
  • Join a passionate, collaborative team dedicated to protecting and sharing heritage.
  • Enjoy a role that combines strategic leadership, professional expertise and hands-on project delivery.

If you’re excited by the challenge of managing historic buildings, delivering meaningful projects and helping preserve extraordinary places for future generations, we’d love to hear from you.
