Brighton & Hove Museums Trust is a leading cultural charity responsible for caring for over one million objects and some of the city’s most iconic buildings, including the Royal Pavilion. Alongside preserving our collections and heritage, we operate a diverse and commercially active organisation with admissions, events, retail, catering, and fundraising activity across multiple sites.

We are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team and provide high-quality financial support across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional looking to develop their management accounting skills within a unique and purpose-driven environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare accruals, prepayments, journals, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Reconcile admissions, events, and other sales income between operational systems and the finance system.
  • Produce timely and accurate sales invoicing and follow up outstanding debtors.
  • Assist with financial reporting, dashboards, and ad hoc analysis to support decision-making.
  • Support VAT returns, Gift Aid claims, and year-end audit preparation.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to improve financial understanding and processes.
  • Contribute to improving finance systems, controls, and efficiencies across the organisation.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working within a finance or management accounting environment.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills, including formulas, pivot tables etc.
  • Experience of reconciliations, journals, sales ledger and supporting month-end processes.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • AAT qualified, studying ACCA/CIMA, or equivalent relevant experience desirable.
