Henry Willett’s Collection of Popular Pottery on display at the V&A

An object from the Willett Collection of Popular Pottery

Brighton & Hove Museums Henry Willett’s Collection of Popular Pottery is currently on display at the V&A in London.

154 ceramics from our Willett collection are now on show in Henry Willett’s Collection of Popular Pottery at the V&A (2 November 2023 – 29 September 2024).

The display celebrates one of Brighton Museum’s founding fathers, Henry Willett, the enlightened collector of pottery that reflected the tastes of ordinary people, their political allegiances, and campaigns for justice, over 300 years.

Objects ranging from a potato, Westminster Abbey, a fuddling (drinking) cup and Napoleon are grouped under themes such as Revolution and Rebellion, Technology, Celebrity and Crime.

Over 50 of the pieces have been in storage so it is wonderful for this important, eccentric, collection to be highlighted at the V&A where hopefully it will encourage visitors to our display in Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
