See selected specimens from our oldest botany collection – seven volumes of pressed plant specimens known as the ‘St Petersburg book’. This is the personal collection of Sir Alexander Crichton, a Scottish doctor who became Chief Physician to Tsar Alexander I. He remained in their service for almost 20 years and served as head of civil medicine in Russia until 1815. On his return to England, he was knighted by King George IV in the Royal Pavilion.
