Welcoming Members of the Brighton Tram 53 Society to Preston Manor

Brighton Tram 53 Society
(L-R) Blay, Guy and Phil from the Brighton Tram 53 Society with a model tramcar made by Raymond Trabaham

Dan and Alexia from the Collections Team recently welcomed members of the Brighton Tram 53 Society to Preston Manor to view a pair of model trams in the collection.

The Society is restoring Brighton’s last surviving tramcar and has ambitions to display and have it running in the city once again.

Blay, Guy and Phil from the Society were particularly interested in one of the two models (pictured). This working model of Brighton Corporation Tramways Car 74 was made between 1979 and 1984 by Raymond Tabraham to one-twelfth scale. It was donated by Raymond to Brighton & Hove Museums in 1999.

Being a particularly fine model with detailed fixtures and fittings, it will inform continued restoration of Tram 53.

Further information and updates about the project can be found on their website or Facebook page.

We wish them the best of luck with the restoration and can’t wait to see it.
