Firstly, two Elm reductions will occur as part of the general Garden maintenance. This is to ensure the elms don’t collapse under their own weight. The elms are by the public toilets and the café. The elm cuttings will be removed and taken to a designated council site. This will reduce the risk of spreading Dutch Elm disease.

The removal of a Lime tree will make room for remaining Elms nearby to grow. The Lime tree is not in a good shape and is overcrowding the other trees. The pollarded Lime tree on the south boarder will also be removed. It hasn’t grown back suitably since it was cut 5 – 10 years ago and detracts from the look of the Garden.

The Chusan Palm tree and the Pine tree near Palace Place will be felled. This work is linked to the Garden project, which has obtained planning permission to make way for a new service entrance. This will allow future events to access the estate directly and reduce traffic to the North Gate entrance. Crucially, this will reduce risk damage to North Gate and lower emission to pedestrians in the Garden.
