Toys
60 mins, KS1
Hove Museum of Creativity
Come and explore toys from the past and today! You’ll see Victorian China dolls, old teddy bears, and toys that children once made themselves.
You’ll also hear stories about the children who lived in Hove Museum when it was a Victorian house. Together, we’ll discover how toys have changed, what they were made from, and how children played in the past compared to now.
Good to Know
- The session lasts 1 hour at Hove Museum of Creativity.
- Available on Tuesdays and Fridays only.
- You are encouraged to explore the rest of the museum, especially the Toys Gallery.
- Suitable for KS1 classes.
What You Will Learn
- I will have fun and enjoy my time.
- I will look for clues from the past using objects, stories, and roleplay to find out what it was like to be a child long ago.
- I will compare old and new toys, think about who might have owned them, and what they were made from.
- I will imagine being a poor child in the past and make my own toy.
Decolonising
• We discuss where the materials used in making things in the past came from and the differences between old and modern toys.
