HRH The Duke of Gloucester to visit the Royal Pavilion for first time since becoming patron
His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, Royal Patron of Brighton & Hove Museums, will visit the Royal Pavilion & Garden this week to learn about the ongoing renovation work and engage with key figures from the organisation. This marks his first visit as Royal Patron, a role he recently assumed following the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III.

Arriving on the morning of 27 March 2025, The Duke will be welcomed by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Andrew Blackman, before meeting local dignitaries, including the High Sheriff of East Sussex, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, and Hedley Swain, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Museums which manages the Royal Pavilion Estate on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council.
His Royal Highness will tour the Royal Pavilion Garden to hear about the National Heritage Lottery funded project to restore the Garden and meet the Head Gardener, garden volunteers, and representatives from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. He will also tour the Pavilion’s interior, meeting key staff members, including some of the longest-serving employees.
The visit will also highlight the Royal Pavilion’s new exhibition, COLOUR, which explores the vibrant and innovative use of colour throughout the historic palace’s design and decoration.
Hedley Swain, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Museums said:
“We are delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester to the Royal Pavilion. His visit highlights the significance of our ongoing restoration work and the dedication of our team in preserving this historic landmark for future generations. We are also excited to showcase our upcoming exhibition, which will celebrate the extraordinary use of colour that makes the Pavilion so unique.”
Brighton & Hove Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Asaduzzaman, added:
“The Royal Pavilion is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of Brighton & Hove and its gardens provide a unique public space for residents and visitors to enjoy. There’s always something new to experience when visiting our Royal Palace, both inside and out, and with major restoration work beginning to transform the garden, it’s an exciting time to be welcoming a Royal visitor.”
The Duke of Gloucester is the youngest grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary. He carries out numerous public duties in support of the King and holds patronage with various organisations, particularly in the fields of architecture, heritage, and conservation.
