We are pleased to announce that Lisa will be joined by artist Rosa Williams for Pride at Hove.

Based in South-East England, coming from a background in textiles, Rosa has developed her artistic style and skills towards structural garments and bold performance pieces. She makes pieces embedded with meaning, whether that be political, personal, or in depth character research. Using textiles, fibres, and mixed media, she crafts unique textural garments, statement pieces, and intricate images that tell a story and provoke thought.

The piece called “Release Your Grip” explores the history of LGBTQIA+ Pride, highlighting themes of oppression and the journey toward self-expression. When the hand is up, it portrays a sense of darkness, symbolizing the struggles faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. As the piece progresses, the removal of a hand/ placement of the hand down signifies the lifting of these oppressive forces. This reveals bold, vibrant colours scattered with powerful symbols of protest, such as labrys, pink triangles, and lavender. Through the unveiling of these colours and symbols, the piece transitions from a state of suppression to one of celebration and empowerment.
