Pathways of Joy: A Vibrant New Public Artwork by Lois O’Hara
A dazzling new public artwork, Pathways of Joy, has transformed the space outside the Royal Pavilion into a swirling, multi-coloured masterpiece. Created by artist Lois O’Hara in collaboration with YesColours and Brighton & Hove Museums, this striking installation celebrates COLOUR, the Royal Pavilion’s latest exhibition exploring the history and impact of vibrant hues.

Inspired by the Pavilion’s bold interiors—originally designed under King George IV’s extravagant vision—O’Hara’s signature fluid forms echo the building’s opulence while adding a fresh, contemporary twist. Dubbed the Rainbow Road, the artwork invites visitors to step into a world of movement, energy, and joy, reinforcing the emotional power of colour in shaping both art and identity.
Beyond its visual appeal, Pathways of Joy turns an ordinary walkway into an interactive artistic experience, aligning with Brighton’s reputation as a hub for creativity and innovation. The project highlights the city’s commitment to public art, making heritage more engaging and accessible through modern design.
The installation was made possible with sustainable, richly pigmented paints provided by YesColours, a brand dedicated to eco-conscious creativity and well-being.
