2-for-1 weekend at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery to celebrate Ben Sherman’s birthday
Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is celebrating the birthday of Ben Sherman (born Arthur Benjamin Sugarman in Brighton on 3 October 1925) with a special 2-for-1 admission weekend on Friday 3, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October. Visitors can explore our current exhibition The In Crowd: Mod Fashion & Style 1958–66, sponsored by Ben Sherman, and bring a friend along for free!
Ben Sherman was a legend in his own right, a man described as “always embracing the new and the different,” someone constantly searching for the best of things. He disliked regularity, preferring to seek out what others thought was unavailable. A passionate businessman with an artist’s soul, Sherman left a post-war Britain at just 20 years old for America, drawn by a land of hope, promise, and opportunity.
The In Crowd, curated by the late Roger K. Burton, captures the energy of the Mod movement, showcasing sharp tailoring, bold colours, and the cultural flair that defined a generation. Guests can immerse themselves in original garments, rare photography, and the spirit of Britain’s 1960s style revolution.
As part of the birthday celebrations, visitors can also explore The Decades, Ben Sherman’s own exhibition in the Fashion Gallery, which charts the history of the brand through its iconic shirts and designs.
Round off your visit with a browse in the museum shop, where exclusive Ben Sherman merchandise is available, the perfect souvenir from a day celebrating one of Britain’s most influential fashion innovators.
With 2-for-1 entry, it’s the ideal opportunity to bring a friend, explore two exhibitions, and celebrate the life and legacy of Brighton-born Ben Sherman.
