Help keep history alive

Brighton & Hove Museums is a charity dedicated to preserving our city’s heritage and inspiring public enjoyment. We care for around two million objects, including three designated collections of international importance, and manage some of the most iconic buildings in Brighton & Hove, such as the stunning Royal Pavilion.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on Facilities Assistant to join our team. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring our historic Grade I and II listed buildings remain safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors from around the world.

What you’ll do

  • Carry out compliance checks such as fire alarms and emergency lighting.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs inside and outside our buildings.
  • Clear gulleys and drainage systems to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to support operations.
  • Collect monthly utility data for reporting.
  • Work at heights, including assisting with roof repairs.

What we’re looking for

  • Basic understanding of UK building regulations and health & safety.
  • Technical qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in plumbing, electrical installation, or building services—or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a public-facing organisation.

Why join us?

  • Work in one of the UK’s most iconic heritage settings.
  • Be part of a supportive team that values practical skills and problem-solving.
  • Enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same.
