11am-3pm Free, drop-in. All ages

Join us for a day celebrating the history, nature and community of the Royal Pavilion Garden. Discover how the garden evolved through time, including its opening to the public in June 1850, and enjoy a variety of activities, creative workshops and pop-up talks for all ages.

Activities throughout the day:

Garden Explorers
Pick up wildlife spotting sheets, identification guides and binoculars to discover the birds, insects and butterflies that call the garden home.

Garden Art
Take part in botanical art activities and cyanotype craft sessions inspired by nature.

Garden Games
Enjoy a relaxed space with self-led board games, card games and outdoor games for individuals, friends and families.

Garden Greeters
Meet our garden volunteers for information, wayfinding, leaflets and informal pop-up talks throughout the day.

Garden History
Chat with expert archivists and uncover stories about the garden’s past, from planting schemes and royal connections to hidden histories revealed through our collections.

Garden Tales
Relax with books and storytelling, enjoy dressing-up activities and face painting, and spend time in a family-friendly space designed for imagination and fun.

Pop-up talks:

11.00am, 12.30pm, 1.00pm and 2.30pm | Garden Greeters
Short highlight tours exploring some of the garden’s most loved plants, birds and trees.

11.30am and 1.30pm | Jack Thompson, Sussex Wildlife Trust
Wildlife Wanders
A family-friendly exploration of the wildlife that thrives within the Royal Pavilion Garden.

12.00pm and 2.00pm | Connor Butler, Ecologist
The Birds & the Bees: Queer Ecology of Pavilion Gardens
Did you know that scientists often struggle to find male woodlice, that male trees can turn female, or that some birds form same-sex partnerships? Connor Butler explores the fascinating world of queer ecology and challenges perceptions of what is considered natural or unnatural. Recommended for ages 16+.
