First World War Memorial Plaque of the Brighton Post Office

First World War Memorial Plaque of the Brighton Post Office

This memorial is very likely from the Brighton Post Office building in Ship Street now occupied by The Ivy restaurant.

Many large employers such as the post office and railways created their own memorials to commemorate colleagues killed in WW1. Such memorials form an important part of our cultural heritage. Many survive in situ while others have sadly been lost.

This memorial was supposedly rescued from the Ship Street site in the 1980s. We intend to add details of it to the Imperial War Museum’s War Memorials Register shortly.
