Part of the One Minute Wonders trail, a story written by one of our volunteers, inspired by objects on display.

By Alex Alexander

This smart 3-piece outfit, made from dark green wool and cotton, would have been the height of fashion in 1907, whilst also being warm and practical.

Are your eyes drawn to the smart buttons, the brightly coloured collar and trim of the waistcoat, or perhaps the sleeves.

This Harvey Nicholls walking suit was worn by Katherine Farebrother, a Sussex woman, wife of a Salisbury solicitor.

Katherine’s husband died in 1913, at which point she put her clothes in a trunk, and she wore mourning clothes until her own death in 1928.

The outfit was found 63 years later, giving us unique access to well-preserved, high-quality fashion from the 1900’s.
