Pro Black – Nalo Solo

In her series “Black in Real Life,” Nalo Solo brings collaborative portraiture to life with vibrant paintings and her poem “Pro Black.” Each subject is portrayed with agency, self-expression, and strength. Nalo’s work challenges fixed identities and speaks to collective healing. Her poem affirms the beauty and depth of Blackness beyond tokenism. Rich in colour and conviction, Nalo’s work reclaims space—refusing marginalisation and insisting on joy, complexity, and truth. This is protest in pigment, poetry as resistance.
