Hand Painted Mementos from Travels in Burma

The World Art curatorial team have been taking an inventory and updating locations of the James Henry Green Library, held in trust at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery on behalf of the James Henry Green Charitable Trust.

They came across these beautiful hand painted depictions of peoples from Burma (Myanmar). Unfortunately, the creator of the paintings is unknown, but it is thought that they were done during Green’s time as a recruiting officer for the Indian Army in the 1920s and his extensive travels across Burma.

Come and find out more about the peoples of Burma (Myanmar) and see some of the Burmese textiles collected by James Henry Green in our World Stories gallery, that are held in trust at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery on behalf of the James Henry Green Charitable Trust.
