From Rembrandt’s golden browns to Winifred Nicholson’s prismatic violets.
Artists have frequently depicted themselves with the tools of their trade. In this lecture curator and author Dr Alexandra Loske looks at the significance of artists’ palettes, both the physical objects and the pigment and colour choices they represent. Drawing on Rembrandt and many other artists, discover how this simple, tactile tool can be a symbol and mirror of an artist’s time and personality.
