BBC Four’s 2021 programme Britain’s Lost Masterpieces featuring two paintings from our collections – Mary Magdalene and Balthazar – has been repeated several times since it was first broadcast.

The programme’s experts decided that Francesco Trevisani painted Mary Magdalene and Joos van Cleve painted Balthazar.

The two paintings have now been hung in Brighton Museum & Art Gallery just outside the temporary exhibition gallery entrance. These are in place of the Angelica Kauffman painting, Penelope at Her Loom, which has gone on loan to the Royal Academy exhibition.
