Brighton Festival 2024 starts this weekend, presenting a vibrant and hopeful array of events suitable for both adults and children. We are thrilled to be a part of the festivities. Below is a list of our events and collaborations, along with a curated roundup to help you choose. 4 May to 1 September: Days of Wonder in Hove Museum of Creativity

Celebrating the magic of early cinema and filmmaking and its spirit of creativity and innovation, Days of Wonder is an exhibition of new work inspired and influenced by the remarkable film and media collections held at Hove Museum of Creativity and Screen Archive Southeast. Corridor and Videoclub have commissioned artists to work with the collections, resulting in an exhibition of new artworks, installed as interventions in the permanent galleries at Hove Museum. Once you’ve experienced Days of Wonder, be sure not to miss our new exhibition, Matisse: Drawing with Scissors.

100 Miles of String | Brighton Festival

Explore “100 Miles of String” in the Pavilion Garden, an interactive installation where participants of all ages weave string to transform the space into a playful environment. This evolving artwork by artists Lucy Cran and Bill Leslie encourages creativity and collaboration. Join in to help create a dynamic, temporary landmark in Brighton.

 

10 May to 4 August: National Treasures: Rembrandt in Brighton Museum & Art Gallery

Don’t miss the chance to see Rembrandt’s “Self Portrait at the Age of 34” at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, a highlight of the National Gallery’s bicentenary National Treasures tour. This masterclass in artistic time travel is accompanied by “Hey, Rembrandt!”—a project where local youths, mentored by photographer Alejandra Carles-Tolra, explore identity through photographic self-portraits. Experience these captivating displays and join a UK-wide celebration of art, accessible to over half the UK population within an hour’s journey.

Shadows of Empire: Taking Tea at Preston Manor (brightonmuseums.org.uk)

Delve into the historical narratives of empire over a cup of tea at the Preston Manor, from theft to drug smuggling to war, the history of tea holds shocking secrets.

This new interactive experience unwraps the story through hands-on interactive puzzles, previously unseen images and curios including the newly restored mechanical Edwardian Dream Machine.

Discover how past inhabitants and guests of Preston Manor enjoyed their cuppas oblivious to the human cost of teatime.

Thought-provoking with challenging adult themes including addiction, the experience concludes with a sit-down cup of tea in a real Victorian Kitchen.
