This gift card features an illustration inspired by the wall paintings in the Long Gallery at the Royal Pavilion. Hand-painted in distemper by Frederick Crace in c.1815. with a design of bamboo, rocks, shrubs and birds in blue against a peachy-pink sunset background. As is typical of the period the crafts people involved only had images to use as reference. Therefore, a lot was left to the imagination, resulting in made-up plants, such as bamboo stalks with flowers and fruit! This card takes inspiration from this exotic Chinoiserie style to create a fantasy land which combines imagined foliage and unusual animals with the Pavilion’s iconic silhouette.
Designed and printed in Brighton.
