Shape the future of Brighton’s heritage

Brighton & Hove Museums is a dynamic charity dedicated to preserving and celebrating our city’s rich history. We care for around two million objects and manage some of the most iconic buildings in Brighton & Hove: none more famous than the stunning Royal Pavilion.

We’re looking for a Historic Buildings Manager to lead the long-term care and maintenance of our unique property portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to work at the heart of Brighton’s cultural heritage, delivering projects that range from major restoration to fire safety improvements and modern mechanical and electrical upgrades.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and plan a programme of cyclical and reactive maintenance across all our historic sites.
  • Develop and deliver a five-year maintenance strategy ensuring value for money and sustainability.
  • Oversee condition surveys and implement best practice in conservation and building works.
  • Manage projects from concept to completion using frameworks like the RIBA Plan of Work, ensuring time, cost, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with partners including Brighton & Hove City Council and coordinate multiple stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

  • A qualified professional (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB) with heritage accreditation at intermediate level.
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance, conservation, and repair.
  • Ability to produce detailed specifications and schedules of work.
  • Familiarity with planning and listed building legislation.
  • Awareness of national and regional museum policies.

Why join us?
