A great fun day at Hove Museum on the May Bank Holiday with lots of activities for children and grown-ups. We celebrated the opening of the new exhibition The art of Puppetry: Making Magic in the Museum with a fantastic busy day in the Museum’s galleries.
Visitors could made and played with shadow puppets in a workshop led by some of the puppet-artists or tried out some magical weaving with many different materials in the crafty workshop led by craft specialist Nadya Derungs. They also watched and chatted with artist Louise Dennis at work in our Artists Making Space. Louise worked throughout the day on a narrative carved into a book and a miniature framed sculptural work.
Collections Assistant Joy Whittam displayed objects from the Royal Pavilion & Museums Toy Collection that were donated by, or are linked with, the children’s authors Lewis Carroll, Beatrix Potter and Cicely Mary Barker.
There was also the opportunity to follow gallery talks and to listen to storytelling in a relaxed and cosy environment. Children were captivated by the amazing playing area where they had great fun with giant blocks, games, cards and more.
A magical day for everyone!
