Welcome to the world of Manga

Sunday 25 June

2–3.30pm £30, members £28, book in advance. Ages 14+

Explore Japanese manga drawing with professional manga artist Ai Takita, known as INKO and discover the connection between modern Japanese Manga and traditional Japanese woodcut prints. Following a brief history of manga and a live drawing demonstration, there will be an opportunity to create exciting original manga characters of your own.
All materials for the session will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring along any pencils, pens or sketchbooks that they feel comfortable drawing with.

The Workshop Leader
Inko Ai Takita was born in Kyoto, Japan and her passion for manga comics started as a child. After finishing a Masters degree at Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to London to study at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design and has been working as a manga artist/ illustrator ever since. She has published several manga books including ‘Tale of Genji manga edition’ (Tuttle), ‘Manga Yokai Stories: Ghostly Tales from Japan’ (Tuttle) and the comic ‘Portrait of Violence’, which won a bronze medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2018. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions and publications and she regularly runs workshops and delivers talks in schools, galleries and museums. Collaborative projects include the ‘Underground Heroes’ project with David Blandy in which 19 manga posters were created and displayed in the London Embankment Underground station.
