This lecture with Royal Pavilion Curator Alexandra Loske will shine a light on other Chinoiserie buildings and interiors in 18th and 19th century Europe, many of which Alexandra has visited, for example the Chinese Teahouse and Dragon Tower at Sanssouci (Potsdam), Schloss Charlottenburg (Berlin), Peterhof, Oranienbaum and Tsarskoe Selo (St Petersburg), Pillnitz (Dresden), Nymphenburg (Munich), Kina Slott (Stockholm), Palazzina Cinese (Palermo), Claydon House, Sezincote, the Kew Pagoda, and others. Having a closer look at these will put the Royal Pavilion into a wider, international and historic context, and will help us understand what makes Brighton’s Royal Pavilion so special.
