A workshop in which you will discover the historical craft of magic lantern slides. You will make and draw three slides which will then be projected through the magic lantern and shared with the group.
Magic lanterns are an early type of slide projector dating back to the seventeenth century, providing education and entertainment. They were often used to tell stories by presenting a series of images with an accompanying narration.
The magic lantern was a very important invention that enhanced the ancient art of storytelling and was significant in the development of film and moving images, a key-part of Brighton & Hove’s inventing history!
In this workshop, you will make and draw three slides. The slides will then be projected through the magic lantern so that participants can present their story to the others in the group. No experience required, just imagination!
Suitable for ages 8 to adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
