Grass Baskets Workshop
Saturday 23 March

10.30am-4.30pm £100, members £95, book in advance. Ages 18+

Learn how to make a small, coiled basket from wild Sussex grasses, perfect for storing eggs or other similar-sized objects. Led by artist/maker Ruby Taylor enjoy the mellow atmosphere that grass basket-making creates and learn which grasses are useful and how to process them.

The basketry technique of coiling is an ancient one. As well as modern metal needles, there will be bone needles available for you to make your basket the way our Stone Age ancestors may have done. Bone basketry needles (handmade by Ruby) will also be available to buy.

Suitable for all levels, including beginners.

The Workshop Leader
Ruby Taylor is an artist maker and educator with more than 30 years’ experience. Her practice is concerned with origins, connection, and the immersive, sensory experience of making. From harvesting in a sustainable way and processing the raw materials, to creating functional and sculptural pieces.
Her work is also informed by extended periods of silent contemplative practice in the natural world. Ruby regularly runs popular courses in Sussex woodland and at UK heritage sites.
