Artist, designer, connoisseur and collector, Martin Battersby lived in Brighton from 1961 to 1978 and left a lasting legacy to Brighton Museum through his world-class collections and groundbreaking exhibitions.
Art Nouveau: the collection of Martin Battersby was held at Brighton Museum in 1964 and was the first exhibition dedicated to the art movement in the UK. In 1969 The Jazz Age showcased Battersby’s outstanding collection of art deco furniture, fashion, paintings and ceramics.
