First British Asian Female Mayor, Nazish Adil

Today’s 100 Pioneering Women of Sussex blog celebrates Nazish Adil, who became the first British Asian female Mayor when elected in Seaford in May 2019.

With a Masters in Law LLM Criminology and an MA in International Relations, Naziah (also known as Pinky), has worked as an Advocate in the High Court Sindh in Pakistan, a lawyer for Human Rights and Legal Aid and a councellor for vulnerable children and adults.

Nazish has lived in Seaford since 20112 and is also manager at Moon of India, the first ever Indian curry house in Seahaven, established in 1978.

She spent her time as Mayor supporting her chosen charities, ‘The Youth Counselling Project’ and ‘The Downs Syndrome Development Trust’.

    The Youth Counselling Project would like to thank Naziah for choosing us as one of her chosen charities for her year in office.
    She worked vety hard and enthusiastically to raise over £1800 for us which provided counselling for 4 young people.
