We are currently looking for volunteers to join our Garden Greeter team for the Royal Pavilion Estate through the summer season April – September 2020.
Garden Greeters is a well-established scheme delivered within the Royal Pavilion Estate, set up by estate partners The Royal Pavilion & Museums, Brighton Dome Brighton Festival Ltd, the Chapel Royal, Pavilion Gardens Café and the Theatre Royal, and is about creating a ‘welcome’ onto the Royal Pavilion Estate for the visitor.
As a Garden Greeter, you will buddy with other Greeters and do a 2.5 hour shift at least once between Friday – Sunday, in the Royal Pavilion Garden, greeting visitors to the Estate, answering queries, directing people, giving out information about what’s on, and sharing learned knowledge about the estate, the Garden, and its buildings. There will be two shifts per day, from April – September on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, and bank holidays. Each shift includes a short break.
As a volunteer working for the Garden Greeters scheme you will ideally
- be confident in approaching people
- have an ability to learn quickly and keep information up to date
- be prepared to work in what will be a busy environment
- be reliable, on time, and flexible
- enjoy communicating with different people
You will be fully inducted and trained in all aspects of Estate security across the Dome, the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Museum. You will be provided with a Garden Greeter T-Shirt, badge, bag, and all up-to-date information including a history of the Estate, its buildings and the Garden. You will have the opportunity to meet with partners, learning about each site, its history and its place as part of the Estate, including behind the scenes tours, to add to your learning.
What will you gain from volunteering?
Support: As a volunteer you will be supported by the Royal Pavilion & Museum’s Volunteer Manager, and will receive a full induction package.
Experience: You will learn about the history of the Estate and its buildings and Garden, which you will build on throughout the season, imparting knowledge and information to visitors. You will have an understanding of how the Estate works, in terms of its people, its venues and its activities.
Benefits: As a volunteer at the Royal Pavilion & Museums you will be entitled to the same benefits as staff, including discounts in the shops/cafes, and free entry to the buildings during the time you are a volunteer. Travel expenses as a volunteer can be claimed back as part of our Volunteer Policy, up to £5.50 per day. The Pavilion Garden Café offers free tea and coffee and 50% off food whilst you are on duty for your shift.
Reference: We are more than happy to provide a reference on request for any future job applications.
If you would like to apply:
The opportunity is for six months, with shifts of 2.5 hours available each morning and afternoon on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, and bank holidays April – September. You can offer as much or little time as fits with you, but we do ask for a minimum of one shift per week.
