On this Day, 28 March 1874: the carnivorous star of Brighton Aquarium

On 28 March 1874, the Brighton Herald newspaper described some of the stars of the recently opened Brighton Aquarium.

The journalist seems to have been particularly struck by the diet of a salmon on display. According to its ‘nurse’ this fish ate ‘blood worms, and rump steaks and biscuits’.
