Museum Tales 4: Haikus for a High Street

Haikus for a High Street

trade flyers pile-up

on the abandoned door mat:

two-for-one pizzas

haberdashery:

once family business

lost the thread sometime

no competition

with Tesco & Sainsbury’s,

Amazon online…

plastic bouquet fades

on shopfront’s dust-thick low sill;

spiders’ webs site now

ideal placing for

nails bar, tattoo parlour or

haircuts-all-£9;

an e-cigarettes

vaping emporium or

charities’ chain;

another café

for barista-taste shoppers

with cupcake cravings…

backlash-denial

spending on luxuries as

banks spin their web threads
