Brighton News Story – 25 December, 1809: Prince returns to Pavilion after dinner party

The Pavilion, which has, by the presence of its illustrious Owner and the Duke of Clarence, with a select party of fashionables, attracted in its gay, though select circle, all our families of distinction, closed its festive amusements with a route and concert on Saturday evening, previous to which his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, honoured the elegant dinner party at Gen. Houston’s with his presence, amidst a numerous assemblage of military characters, and at the christening ceremony which succeeded the entertainment, gratified the feelings of his honoured host by personally standing sponsor for his infant daughter.  The whole of his numerous party, at the conclusion of the baptismal form, adjourned, with additional numbers, by desire of the Prince, to the Pavilion, where the superb suit of rooms were brilliantly illuminated for their reception and where the charms of condescending hospitality, heightened by the enlivening charms of friendship and harmony, detained the social circle till the late hour.
