Brighton News Story – 22 December, 1791: “the whole world possibly could not furnish so much female loveliness…”

Duchess of Cumberland’s Ball. On Monday night a Ball was given at Cumberland House manifestly for the purpose of introducing Mrs Fitzherbert to her Royal Highness the Duchess of York…The Prince of Wales was in a fur-trimmed slate-colour dress, and entered the Ball Room nearly at the same time.  The Duke of Clarence, who was in uniform was much earlier.  Mrs Fitzherbert accompanied by her brother Mr Smith, did not arrive til past eleven o’clock; she was dressed in white satin, and looked remarkably well.  For such a small an assemblage, the whole world possibly could not furnish so much female loveliness.
