Between eight and nine o’clock on Saturday evening the Prince, Mrs Fitzherbert, Miss Picket, Mr St Leger, Colonel Lee and Son, Cpt. Pain and attendants passed their way through this town on their way from Tunbridge Wells to Brighthelmstone; and although the evening was dark, and the air unpleasant, the Prince did not indulge himself in a carriage but pursued his journey on horseback.  Mrs Fitzherbert followed in her open phaeton.
