Currently on display at the Brighton Museum shop is an eclectic collection of ceramics, graphic design, and surreal objects d’art by Brighton based artists.
Seiko Kato and Saffron Reichenbacker – both members of the artists collective behind Handmade Co. shop — will be exhibiting along with Chris Murphy, a Brighton based ceramicist, until Sunday 27th May.
All the artists have items available to buy in the Museum gift shop, be it an original sculpture or a pin badge, so you can support your local talent even if you’re not Charles Saatchi.
Chris Murphy is a Brighton born ceramic artist and a technician at the University of Brighton whose work explores and experiments with aspects of dereliction and decay as he observes them in natural structures and the English landscape. Chris has also created a range of tiles for us celebrating the landmarks of his home town in his distinctive style.
In her work, Saffron Reichenbacker attempts to create a world born out of obsessions with early cinema, vamps, flappers, vintage erotica, Mexican folk art, sultry sailors and fallen stars. Her prints and cards are created using a combination of illustrative and digital techniques.
For freelance illustrator/artist Seiko Kato inspiration for her evocative collage and montage pieces comes from an assortment of Victoriana. Old medical books and illustrations, encyclopedias and antique paraphernalia all feature in her intricate creations. A range of cards and small prints of her originals are available to purchase.
