Interreg Waide Projects 2013-14 Out of the Blue, Woad: heritage and creativity
The Royal Pavilion and Museums is engaged in an exciting collaborative Interreg Channel programme project, involving partners in Amiens, France, and Brighton & Hove.
The Royal Pavilion and Museums launched its public programme of ‘Out of the Blue’ displays, events and exhibitions in June 2013. The first, Regency Colour & Beyond opened on 15 June in the Royal Pavilion. The temporary display explores Regency interior décor and understandings of colour
It is the rainbow flag of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender movement which has inspired Object Stories a trail at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery which illuminates objects on permanent display with LGBT ‘hidden histories’ (until end-2013).
Running to August 2014 is Into the Blue a family-friendly exhibition at Hove Museum and Art Gallery. The display of all things blue, drawn from our collections, is a journey of discovery in science, art and history.
And more is planned for 2014, including a creative community engagement project with vulnerable adults and a new programme of events working with disadvantaged community groups for Into the Blue at Hove Museum.
Museum Mentors – a community art and craft project working with adults with mental health issues has resulted in a film now on display in the Willett Gallery at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. The film titled Beyond the Mantelpiece runs until 9 May 2015.
