The café at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery has been operated by JRC Cafés, a sister company to JRC Events, since 1 November 2014, initially under a two-year contract. Although the company has enjoyed working in partnership with Brighton Museum on its café it is primarily an event caterer, with business growing steadily in this area.
JRC will continue to run the café until 31 October 2016 but has decided to prioritise and develop its event-catering focus, and not seek a contract extension at Brighton Museum. JRC will continue its long-standing working relationship with the Royal Pavilion & Museums (the Brighton & Hove City Council service that runs Brighton Museum) on catering for its functions and weddings events business.
Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) will shortly be promoting an opportunity for a new caterer to run the café in Brighton Museum from November 2016. Local businesses applying for the contract will have the opportunity to put their own stamp on the running of the café, working in partnership with Royal Pavilion & Museums.
Councillor Alan Robins, Chair of BHCC’s Economic Development & Culture Committee, said: “This is an exciting new opportunity for a local business to develop an on-going partnership in a unique city centre venue, serving both Brighton Museum visitors and the many thousands who come to the Royal Pavilion Estate each year. We’re also pleased that JRC will continue their long-term partnership with us on our event catering.”
