This is an albumen photographic tourist print collected by the Stanford family. The print shows a cobble-stoned path running through a cemetery in the ruins of Pompeii. Pompeii was abandoned after the massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and was buried under up to 10 feet of ash; it was the ash that preserved the treasures later discovered at Pompeii. Large tombs flank the path on both sides. Printed in a band below the bottom edge of the print is, Pompei, via delle tombe, and the albumen print number 95.
