Volunteers are needed for a new temporary display gallery & associated events running at Preston Manor between April and November 2016.
There are also opportunities for similar work at the ‘Where Witchcraft Lives’ temporary exhibition at the Old Courthouse, Brighton from early August to early September 2016

You would like to learn about museum event management by getting hands-on experience
What skills are we looking for?
As a volunteer you will ideally:
- Have an interest in Witchcraft, Paganism, Folklore & Customs, Sussex history
- Be flexible and prepared to work with the Visitor Services Officers and event staff at Preston Manor and members of the Doreen Valiente Foundation
- Enjoy communicating with different people
The display at Preston Manor initially runs from early April until the end of September 2016 and we are looking for people who can commit time within these months on a rota system with other volunteers. You might be able to offer a small amount of time or longer periods. All applicants are welcome and there will be plenty of flexibility to fit in with your other commitments.
Some events are in the early evenings.
Preston Manor is open to the public from 1 April to 30 September on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm
Opening hours may be extended into October & November when Preston Manor normally closes for the winter season and volunteering opportunities may continue into these months.
The Old Courthouse
If you are interested in volunteering at the temporary exhibition in August and September we are taking contact details. Duties will be similar to those at Preston Manor.
What will you gain from volunteering?
Support: As a volunteer you will be supported by staff at Preston Manor.
Experience: You will learn the workings of a public facing programme within a historic house. You will be working with a dedicated team of people to provide a service. The opportunity will provide experience of the historic house environment and of the demands and needs of a historic house and of the visitors. We value volunteers and aim to provide a worthwhile experience of this part of the museum sector.
