Experience a magical Christmas at the Royal Pavilion. The fires are lit, the candles are flickering, the spectacular Banqueting Room table is laid with after dinner treats and the building is transformed with festive decorations and glittering trees. Pavilion-inspired decorations including butterflies, birds and flowers bring sparkle, glamour and Christmas cheer for all the family. Join us for drop-in activities and spot George the playful Cat on our family trail.

What to see:

  • Start your magical journey through the palace as you are welcomed by Christmas trees at the main entrance decorated in traditional styles (including George IV and Royal Pavilion decorations available to buy in the shop) and yuletide sound ringing out around the building, including carols and festive music. Pick up your free trail to keep the kids entertained
  • Feast your eyes on the Banqueting Room table with its decorations of Regency-style fruit and desserts, including almond cake, lemon jelly, red fruit jelly, rose ice cream and individual frosted fruit tarts, nestled amongst Christmas foliage and sparkling lights
  • Taking inspiration from the copperware a 12ft tree in the Great Kitchen is decorated with mini copper pans and spoons (available to buy in the shop)
  • Marvel at trees of differing heights in the magnificent Music Room, and imagine you are Queen Victoria in our stunning Victorian-style sleigh
  • The tree in the King’s Apartments is decorated in a contemporary style with decorations of origami stars made from copies of book pages that George IV would have had in his library
  • As you make your way upstairs you’ll glimpse the table in the North Gallery set for Christmas breakfast, with piles of presents waiting to be opened, and an 18th century dolls house and rocking horse in the Royal Bedrooms help set the festive family scene
  • The (unlit) fireplaces throughout the palace will be dressed with festive swags, with stockings hanging in the bedrooms
  • Queen Victoria’s apartments features decorations of birds, butterflies and birdcages and brings the wallpaper design to life
  • Some of the decorations will also be available to buy in the shop so you can have your own Royal Pavilion themed Christmas!

Activities at the weekends 2 & 3, 9 &10 & 16– 24 December

  • Storytelling in the Music Room between 12-4pm (on the hour, lasting 25 minutes). Free with admission
  • Make your own tree decorations, 12-4pm. Free with admission, drop-in

Please note the activities on 24 December will end at 2pm as the Palace closes at 2.30pm
