Brighton News Story – 30 November, 1792: Prince forced to make cuts

The prudent and reasonable sacrifice to be made on the part of the Prince of Wales, that by a retrenchment of his expenses he may be enabled to discharge the just demands of his numerous creditors, was on Thursday announced in form to the pages and servants of every description who were ordered to attend at one o’clock.  They were informed by Colonel Hulse, that he had his Royal Highness to aquaint them, that a retrenchment in the expenses of his Royal Highness’ Household being a measure decided upon, it was necessary, though a painful office, to inform them, that their services would be dispensed with, after the expiration of the present quarter.
