Brighton News Story – 26 September, 1790: Duke of Cumberland dies

On Saturday morning an express arrived at Brighton for the Prince, acquainting him of the death of his Royal Uncle, the Duke of Cumberland; upon which his Royal Highness immediately set off for town.  On Saturday the Prince was to have honoured Lord Gage with his presence at Firle Place to dinner, but was prevented by the above melancholy event.
