The Beddoe Collection: the truth revealed…

If you spotted our blog post yesterday on our new addition to the Twentieth Century gallery at Brighton Museum, you probably realised it was an April Fool’s joke.

We did not go quite so far as putting the collection on display for April 1, but the Beddoe Collection was briefly exhibited on Wednesday evening. This was a small occasion to mark the retirement of Stella Beddoe, our Keeper of Decorative Art, who has left the Royal Pavilion and Museums after over 30 years. The text accompanying the Beddoe Collection was written by our former Head Conservator, Gordon Grant.

Stella will be missed, but will be returning to work with us on other projects in the future. However, a blockbuster exhibition on Le Style Municipal or the Abfall movement is unlikely…
