Great War: Between the Lines project

The Royal Pavilion and Museums are working with local communities to hold a series of exhibitions, displays and events to commemorate the individual and collective experiences of the First World War and explore its legacy.

Some of the events have been made possible by funding and support from the INTERREG 2 SEAS Programme – a cross-border European cooperation programme, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project aims to better prepare these regions for the commemoration of the Centenary of the Great War from 2014 until 2018. The aim is to improve accessibility to the memory and heritage of the Great War for various audiences. The region stretches from the United Kingdom to the Aisne and encompasses Pas-de-Calais, the Nord department, Belgium and the Somme region. By joining forces the partners wish to promote the idea of a shared past throughout the region as well as a better understanding of the events of the Great War, its heritage and its influence on the society in which we Europeans live today

We’re posting a story a day about the First World War on our Tumblr. We’ll be exploring the stories about the war that can be told about our collections, and our work behind the scenes to commemorate the centenary.
